NASCAR lost it…


I still watch NASCAR, because I am (obviously) a huge #21 fan…

But..

Even I acknowledge that NASCAR is stale. My theory is twofold:

1) NASCAR used to feel technically savvy. If Jeff Gordon’s team figured out how to run a light weight hub in Charlotte then they win. Today’s NASCAR is everybody run in the exact same car, or at least that’s what it sounds like to the fan. What is the excitement in that? F1 still feels technically savvy to me… I want to see it when Red Bull or ? Figures something out and dominates… and then when everyone figures it out I want to hear what it was…

2) The improvements in the broadcast have been so great that many fans don’t feel they need to go to the track. But, then they miss out on what makes it really awesome which is the sounds and smells and everything else. But they don’t know that and the TV product isn’t THAT GOOD to produce die hard fans. Tuning in but getting bored = lost fans.
